Kathy does Culverden (at the hat shop)

Hats off to the Culverden Show, Canterbury - New Zealand: Late October each year "Ladies who shop" gather at the Christmas Fete. Full of local crafts, wine, food and entertainment, a great day out. Superb for people watching too.

Volcano Bar, Lyttleton, Christchurch - New Zealand. Really nice food, distinctive and different. Lyttelton is great because it is a little bit earthy unlike its' pretentious neighbour Christchurch.

Pukeko Junction Cafe - Just North of Christchuch on SH1 has great food, a wine outlet and some excellent arts and gifts too. Not the usual 'crafty' stuff sold to the tourists.

The Store, Kekerengu - New Zealand. Half an hour north of Kaikoura, this is a superb cafe / restaurant. I was so amazed to discover this imaginative building after miles of seemingly bland settlements on the way down from Malborough. a most unasuming exterior reveals hides a welcoming fire in winter and a brilliant vantage point from which to view the crashing waves of the beatiful surrounding coastline. A must if you are passing, worth a deviation if you are not.

Great Bach, Akaroa - New Zealand

9 Pompeys Place is a superb Bach, probobally one of the best I have stayed in yet. Superb views, peaceful location, bell birds all around and only a short walk to the village.

Culverden Show

The Culverden Country Fete is meant to be a real spectacle. Not much seems to happen here in the way of spectacular country fetes so we are going to give it a go.

Picton to Malborough the windy way, well worth a look if you are in the area but take it easy, the road is unsealed most of the way. Some wonderful bays and remote settlements.
